Class Description

Saturday !4th October-13.00 £45.00 Tutor: Yvette Redding This is the perfect opportunity to learn the wonderfully mindful and addictive art of Japanese stitching called Sashiko. In this half-day class, you will explore two types of sashiko and make two coaster-sized, embroidered panels. You will receive full instructions for finishing the coasters at home. Samples of different patterns and stitched items will be available to inspire you on your inevitable sashiko journey! The topics we aim to cover in this lesson: Selecting fabric and threads Marking patterns Holding and moving the needle efficiently Joining and finishing threads Motif and ‘Hitomezashi’ stitching patterns A brief history of sashiko and its applications How to turn your stitched panels into coasters. Materials needed: All class materials to start your project are included in the price of the class. To finish your coaster at home you will need two pieces of cotton backing fabric (plain or patterned) 5 x 5.5 inches. Two pieces of lightweight wadding each 5 inches square. Sewing thread and needle (sewing machine is optional). Refreshments: Tea, Coffee and delicious cake are included in your lesson.
